Suzanna Ran: Yoga Therapist at Yoga Therapy of Michigan
return to Meet the Therapists page
Suzanna Ran is a
dedicated health educator and yoga teacher, with more than
three decades experience in the field of teaching. She is a
graduate of the University of Michigan, School of Education
with a Bachelor’s degree in physical and health education.
Over the course of thirty years she has held a wide variety
of positions including university faculty member, studio
owner, medical fitness director, aquatic director, corporate
wellness specialist and author. She wrote and produced an
audio/video/workbook program called “Your Personal Best” and
was a regularly featured health and fitness expert on the
top rated morning show “Kelly and Company” in Metro Detroit.
While living in Israel, she was recruited by the Ministry of Education to design and conduct
the country’s first Aerobic Instructor Training and
Certification at Windgate Institute and Haifa University.
Although she was
first introduced to yoga when she was twelve, it was only
after decades of teaching fitness classes that she began to
narrow her focus to the study and practice of yoga,
initially as a means to heal from illness and injury. She
began studying yoga on her own in 2001 and in 2004 she
received certification as a Registered Yoga Teacher at the
200 level (RYT-200) through Jonny Kest’s Center for Yoga in
West Bloomfield, Michigan. She continued her yoga studies
with Shakta Kaur Kalsa and received her Certificate of
Completion for the Radiant Child Level 1 and 2. She advanced
her training as a Yoga Therapist through the Ananda Seva
Mission in Santa Rosa California, also earning a 500-level
certification. She achieved the designation “E-RYT500” from
the Yoga Alliance, due to her advanced training and having
taught more than 5000 yoga classes to children, adults and
seniors, aged five to ninety. As an E-RYT she is authorized
to teach and certify yoga teachers at both the 200 level and
the 500 level and gets as much joy from developing the
curriculum as she does teaching. Suzy credits her Ayurvedic
teachers Dr. Saraswati Buhrman, Dr. Sarita Shresta and Shar
Lee with inspiring her to establish Yoga Therapy of
Michigan, to further assist clients and aspiring teachers on
their path to self healing and self fulfillment.
